May 11, 10am – 12pm: Cave Goblin Fusion

Known for his propensity for moving like a cave goblin who learned to belly dance, Drake teaches the fundamentals of his unique “cave goblin” grunge style of fusion. This class will explore counterintuitive movement pathways, creative floorwork, and body conditioning to unlock the goblin within. Alternative movement options will be offered to floor work.

3:30pm - 5:30pm: Stage Presence

In this workshop, we explore how to reconcile with inner conflicts to be our most authentic and vulnerable onstage. Movement and intellectual exercises will be led to help identify sources of presence, develop a relationship with the audience, and practice self-forgiveness. This workshop is a hybrid of lecture and movement.

May 12th, 9:30am – 11:30am - Fragile Like a Bomb

Dynamism and contrast are essential to creating visual texture in a performance. Using a variety of combinations, this workshop explores the juxtaposition of sinuous, grounded belly dance technique with explosive, high-impact movement qualities.

Conoce a ✨ 𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐯𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐩 ✨

Multi-award-winning interdisciplinary bellydancer and an emerging academic living in Chicago. Their dynamic style is an interplay of raqs sharqi and fusion bellydance, West African vernacular dances and classical formation in contemporary modern dance and ballet.

He also holds the status of Trainee Master Stage 1 & 2 in Dance Cohesion, Suhaila and Jamila Salimpour Level 1, as well as a certification as NASM Personal Trainer.

Drake's combined love of dance and research led him to study dance academically, earning a master's and a bachelor's degree in dance. His master’s thesis, “From Bal Anat to Hahbi’Ru: An Oral History of John Compton, American Male Belly Dancer,” is the most comprehensive compilation of information about men in the world of bellydance, and his most sought-after topic for conferences and workshops.

It has been described as "a much needed example of how research into dance and bellydance should be captured."

His groundbreaking undergraduate thesis, “Masculinity in American Belly Dance,” has been described as a “wonderful study of dance” that has provided an “insightful and important” perspective on bellydance culture in North America, and received the “Excellence in Scholarship” award Undergraduate Writing” and “Outstanding Undergraduate Student”.

Currently, Drake is keeping busy with his tour schedule and directing Arcanum World Dance, a dance studio co-run with his dance partner and life partner Kamrah.
