The Cymbal Dance: Virtual Performance Intensive

Weekly choreography intensive

TUESDAYS IN JUNE from 7p – 8:30p

"I think it's important to know that his legacy isn't HIV and AIDS, but it's important to understand that gay men in particular need to honor those who came before us and the sacrifices they made, and a lot of times with their lives...He was a performer who brought joy to people's lives who happened to have had HIV and that developed into AIDS, and he died due to complications of that. But I think it's important. It's not part of his legacy, but it's part of his life." - Mark Bissell, qtd. in my master's thesis.

Tuesday evenings in June, I am offering an online performance opportunity in honor of our beloved Father of Fusion Belly Dance, John Compton!

Join me in a 5-week choreography intensive learning John's famous choreography, "The Cymbal Dance." Classes will be live-streamed on Zoom with recordings uploaded to Podia every week, including cymbal notation.

A portion of proceeds will be donated to the San Francisco Aids Foundation (SNAF) (www.sfaf.org). As many of you know, John ultimately succumbed to complications with AIDS on Oct. 14, 2012. He lived most of his life in the Bay Area, so I chose to donate to a charity close to his home.

DETAILS

⭐️ Each class is 90 minutes, which includes cymbals, movement breakdown, and choreography.

⭐️ Tuition is $150 for 5 classes with an optional 2-part payment plan of $75/month.

⭐️ At the end of the series, students will optionally have a week to film and send me their performance videos. I will stitch them together into a compilation—but it's not required! Feel free to just learn the dance for your own enjoyment.

⭐️ Classes start at 7pm Central Time on Zoom.
